Hikapee Opportunities

Audition Call Out

Hikapee are starting the creation of a new show, FLOURISH.
We’re holding a workshop audition for the R&D stage of this outdoor circus theatre show, and are looking for 4 performers!

Taking place on and in a bespoke twisted tubular structure, this will be a very physical process/ show. We will be exploring durational performance, improvisation and non-verbal storytelling with elements of community involvement.

We are looking for physical performers who have experience in devising/ choreographing, with strong floor work (circus/gymnastics/physical theatre/dance) as well as being comfortable working at height and duo/group work. You’ll need to be confident playing on a large, unusual structure, connecting with an audience and character work.

Rehearsal dates:
19th - 24th May, 101 Outdoor Arts, Newbury (accommodation & food provided)
16th - 21st June, Out There Arts, Great Yarmouth (shared accommodation & food provided)
24th - 27th June, The Horton, Epsom (no accom/ food provided)
Work in progress sharing date TBC but likely Sunday 29th June, in Staines-upon-Thames

If you’re unable to make all of the rehearsal dates but are still interested, please get in touch, as this may not necessarily rule you out.

Audition Date & Location: Thursday 3rd April, at The Horton, Epsom (KT19 8NP)
We are splitting the day so that we can work with small groups at a time, so you’ll join us for either the morning or afternoon.

If selected to audition, you’ll join us for some exercises, games and will have a chance to play on the structure. We also ask for you to prepare a solo 1-2 minute floor act, this doesn't need to be really polished but it is helpful if you have music to go alongside it and is something you can repeat. This could be (but is not limited to) dance, acrobatics, physical theatre, parkour or puppetry and should demonstrate some form of physical storytelling.

This position is paid above equity rates.
We are not looking for hula hoop, rola bola, or juggling skills at this stage.

If interested, please email Edd & Bryony with a video and/or photos of your previous work, your CV (written, video or audio) & a cover letter. If you have limited footage or information, but are really interested in the project and think you’ll be a good fit, please do still get in touch.
If you have any experience leading workshops please let us know as 2 of the performer roles will also deliver our community outreach.

Please email: hikapeetheatre@gmail.com
Deadline to Apply: Monday 10th March 2025 at 6pm
If travel costs are a barrier to you attending the audition, please get in contact with us.

Hikapee News

2025 is bringing a number of exciting projects for the Hikapee Team!

FLOURISH

We’re heading into a period of Research & Development for a brand new outdoor show - FLOURISH!

This project will see us explore durational performance, and audience connection in a whole new way.

FLOURISH R&D is supported by Arts Council England, 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space, Out There Arts & The Horton Epsom.

Everywhere’s a Beach

Everywhere’s a Beach will be heading back on the road in Summer, and we’re currently compiling an exciting tour for our giant spinning parasol. If you have an event or festival which you’d like us to visit, get in touch!

Did you see Everywhere’s a Beach on the road last year?
We would be so grateful to receive any feedback you’re willing to share. It helps us to develop our work, and continue to receive funding to create more.

The Hideout

'The Hideout' is a vibrant, daring and heartwarming show about unlikely friendship. Meet two best friends from very different backgrounds, whose favourite thing to do is to climb and play on 'their' giant fallen willow tree.
Until one of them begins to struggle.
This is when the hole appears and they begin to physically descend into 3m of darkness. With the help of their friend and an explosion of colour, they begin to climb their way back to this special friendship.

With two performers, the show is specifically created for children aged 4-8, and explores themes of anxiety and low mood within children.

Since a period of R&D in 2024, we have been working with partners and theatres to secure funding which’ll see us take the production into a final creation period and a UK tour.
If you’d like to discuss booking the show, or supporting its creation in any way, please get in touch.
